I've been thinking about getting dreadlocks, but I want to make sure I know how to get rid of them if I dont like them :)

There is an agent that will help you comb them down. You would more then likely have to cut a few inches from the end and saturate your hair with a deep conditioner. Then start detangling. You will loose hair but you loose 50 hairs a day anyway wether or not you comb. If I were you I'd be very sure that I wanted to take them down. If your not they wont look like what they did when you first loc'd.

You don't. Also, one cannot "get" dreds, they develop over time. It will take four to six months at a minimum for your hair to lock. Once it's locked, there's no way to get rid of them but to shave them off.

Lakyn, if I'm so wrong how did my locks get so long? I know kids are going to stylists, but they're not coming out with locks. Those kids could easily pull their hair apart after they walk out of those boutiques. You cannot create dreds in a barber's chair - it takes time. There is no such thing as "temporary dreds." If you can get them out, they were never dreds.

ohh it's horrible. scalp itching, dandruff, peeling, it pulls the skin and irritates it and makes your hair disgusting. I had them one time and it was so so so so soooo horrible. my hair was a complete tangled mess for months and I looked like a homeless hooker. oh please don't do it! I'm a stranger here trying to save you from utter destruction! if you want to get rid of them you have to have a professional do it and it hurts so bad, they cut and rip and snag it all up. definetely not worth it.

you cant get rid of them without cutting off ur hair, and yes you can get dreds you just go somewhere and they will professionlly twist them, then after that you just wait for them to develop more.

Yeah, that first answerer is completely wrong. You can GET dreads through the use of chemicals, etc. But yeah, you can't get them out without cutting them. I would say do them yourself temporarily. The only way to get rid of dreadlocks without cutting off your hair is to have fake ones in the first place. My niece makes fake dreadlocks for herself out of yarn. She wants to start selling them online. She could be wearing dreadlocks one day, and have smooth hair the next.
