How do you get rid of split-ends without cutting your hair?

I have trimmed my hair so many times in inches in the past, but i still have splitends no matter how much i chop off. Is there any treatment that can help smoothen out the ends or at least help prevent them from continuing. Please do not respond with "cut your hair", i know its "the only way" i already said i have trimmed and cut my hair inches [every 3 months] with no avail, anything else is useful/helpful. I am asking for info on treatments and prevention. Also, NO - i don`t use a flat iron or blow dry my hair when wet and NO - i do not brush it when wet, i actually leave it alone to dry and do its own thing before i brush. Just to clear that up.

It is pretty much impossible to get rid of all your split-ends. Even if you cut like you said they still come back. The best thing you can do to further prevent split-ends is using a Shampoo %26amp; Conditione made for damaged hair and use a hair treatment at least once a week. A good brand to use is Biolage sold at beauty supply stores or if you want to stay on a budget try the new Dove Intensive Theraphy Shampoo/Conditioner and Repairing Treatment.

Split ends happen when the protective cuticle has been stripped away from the ends of hair fibers. Split ends are more likely to develop in dry or brittle hair, and typical causes of damage include excessive dying or vigorous brushing.

Once the hair cuticle is removed, it is impossible to replace. Typically the hair splits into two or three strands, and can be as long or two to three centimeters in length. The best treatment is to cut off the split end of the damaged fiber.

1. Take care not to split them in the first place, because the only cure is a trim, according to trichologists (hair doctors) everywhere.

2. Don't brush hair when it's wet, because that's when it is at its most vulnerable.

3. Cool it on the heat styling tricks. That means cut down on hair dryers, straightening irons, crimpers, curling irons and hot curlers.

4. Buy a natural-bristle brush that won't pull on hair and ultimately break it off, thereby causing a possible split end.

5. Wear a hat to minimize sun damage.

6. Use a shampoo that lists sunscreen as a major ingredient.

7. Condition after shampooing, and use a deep conditioner once a month.

8. Try a hair split repair product. It won't actually repair the hair, but it will minimize the stray hair look you hate.

9. Get a trim every six weeks.

Treat your hair as the fragile living thing it is; don't twirl, tug or abuse it.

A satin pillow case will minimize tangles.

Always use coated or covered rubber bands.

When you swim, wear a swim cap to protect your hair from harsh chlorine.

Learning preventative care is a must.

Too many products, treatments and fussy hairdos won't do your hair any good. Overdying and drying it are the main culprits.

You can't.

Look, your hair is DEAD tissue! The ends won't "heal" or "repair."

All you can do is do your best to PREVENT them from happening once you do trim off the really bad ones.

Treat your hair gently. DO NOT BRUSH IT while it's wet. ONLY use a wide tooth raking comb.

Give appliences a rest. Heat is NOT your hair's friend!

Don't Over Condition. The wrong kind of conditioner used too often or not rinced completely can actually dry out the ends of your hair.

DO use natural hair friendly oils like Avacado and Mango oils.

Eat more Fatty Fish!! Or take Fish Oil suppliments. Not only is it good for your hair roots, but it helps lower cholesterol as well!

And my personal Fav: Sleep on a satin pillow case!!! You don't have to get a whole satin sheet set. You can just buy the pillow cases or even make your own.

These help keep your hair from tangling while you sleep AND they don't leave nasty "pillow" wrinkles on your face!!

Use a hot oil treatment by V05. they're sold in 3 tubes you put in hot water then work into your hair. maybe $5 at your walmart, this stuff works great, or mayonaise, i know it sounds funny, i'd heard about this for awhile and finally tried it, then put the blow dryer on my hair with it in my hair for about five to ten minutes, then shampoo and condition and style. My hair came out so soft, like new, i have highlights in my hair, and some pretty bad ends, after this you could'nt tell good luck
